Are you a world citizen? Do you know you are world citizen? Have you been brought up as national citizen, Are you a loyal follower of a system that can demand obedience, sometimes without thought and often in spite of the dictates of logic or humanity.
Does the statement "my country right or wrong" disturb you If so, you may well be a world citizen without being aware of that fact. Do you question the morality of actions by your own government and are you willing to deny their validity if they strike you as wrong in some way?
Are you a member of Amnesty International or Friends of the Earth, a subscriber to Greenpeace or Oxfam? Do you buy Fair Trade goods, read the New Internationalist? Do you speak Esperanto or are you a member of the International Friendship League? Do you read the Ecologist the New Internationalist or papers that take a world view.
If you are you a supporter of the World Court Project or CND you may well be a world citizen. Your choice may make the crucial difference between how the world is moving and where it ought to be heading. We live in an age of transition, between the dominance of nationalism and the recognition of our need for a democratic world authority. It is the building of such an authority that is desperately urgent to make the future safe for ourselves and our descendants. We can change the course of history if we choose but not unless we inform ourselves about the implications of being world citizens.
